Been meaning to report on the Swinger - which I FINALLY got to fly FCM weekend. In fact: Test flights were Friday evening, & it was competitive Saturday morning. Still needs some trim work, but I am really tickled by how well it handles.
It is still a little nose heavy. I added 1/4 oz to the tail, and think another 1/4 oz would do the trick The leadouts need to move forward aabout 1/4" and it could probably use a little less tip weight. The tip weight is also on the I-Beam, meaning it is about 2" behind the CG. THink I'm getting a roll & yaw coupling because of that (thanks to Sparky for spotting that one)
Concerns that the wings would blow off (see earlier thread) due to using monocote covering were refuted. In fact it does not look like there is any visible flex in flight. Looks like it should be around awhile.
The electric power proved better than adequate, lower than expected current draw let me drop down from 3000mAh battery pack to the 2500 mAh - for a 2 oz weight save pack to spare. Flown on 61' lines, it looks like it will easily handle 63' at same power setting That should slow the lap times from 5.0 to 5.2 or so.
Finally, and this meant a LOT to me, I got to fly it for Jack Sheeks on Saturday. I think he was happy to see it in the air. Make no mistake about it, the swept wing looked like NOTHING else on the field! ...and I got a nice big autograph from my "Hoosier Daddy"!
Looking ahead, I hope to see Tom N's upcoming swept wing Sea Vixen (rumored to be in primer) and other great swept wing designs.
Thanks to Allen Goff for the in-flight pix, and thanks JACK for a great design!
