JIm Kostecky's REAL Formula S
« on: June 27, 2007, 03:06:52 PM »
A while back we were discussing the Formula S and that there were some slight errors on the published plans.  I mentioned a set I had (which I had lost) that Jim had "corrected", and Bob Hunt stepped up to check and see if it would be alright to copy and sell the "corrected plans".

Bob has permission and I have already received my "new set".  ;D  You can contact him through the Vendors Corner section under Robin's View Productions to get yours!

Anything Jim had at home when he passed away was placed on a bonfire in the backyard and was destroyed soon after his passing.  Make your own plans for the dispersal of your hobby items.

Absolutely hated that models took away from family time.

Simple but true.

Allen,

Is that the original Tucker Special to the left of the Formula S in the picture?   :o

Jim Pollock   H^^

P.S. About families hating time away from them spent on modeling.  That's something that happens all to often
and even creates undue tensions in some families.   >:(

One other small thing.

Tom McClain had Jim's light Blue Talon at the NVCL field back in 2004 when I was still up there.  I flew it a couple of
times.  First flight was too rich and I didn't notice much, second flight was O.K. but I can't say that the airplane felt especially great on the lines to me.  I guess, I've become accustomed to heavier pull flying planes with .51's and .61's.

I have talked with Art Sr several times and he and a couple of the St. Louis guys were building them at the some time trying different things, but they do go back to the day (before I was around).  The reason I picked the Formula S was because I see it everytime we go up and it was flown at the Nats the year I was born.  It still looks pretty sharp.

Robert,

Thanks for the Picture of the Nr. 1 Tucker and it's creator.
It is a special airplane and when I see them fly, they still do magnificent patterns.

That is a picture of the first Tucker. The man holding it is Youth air champ Ron O'tool. I have no picture of Bob Tucker. When Bob was in Tulsa in the early 90's I spoke with him on a weekly basis.

I made a Formula S for VSC 2001.  Talked with Jim the summer before, and like for several others, he sent me a corrected version of the nose, hand drawn.  Mine is an outstanding flying plane.

To Jim Pollock,

The Tucker seen in the picture is one of many which have been built in the St. Louis area.

I do not actually know whose this one is.

Jim;

I am not sure about the Talon, but Tom McClain does have Jim Kostecky's Patriot II.  While Tom was down here going to some courses at Maxwell AFB he left it with me so that I could take some measurements and tracings.  Plans for the Patriot II will be in a future Stunt News article.

Fortunately for all of us, the Patriot II is another Kostecky creation that did not make it to the great backyard bonfire.
