Jerry Worth's Mirage
« on: December 24, 2010, 04:06:20 PM »
I have the plan for the Mirage and a building buddy has one just started. I think it's a beautiful design.
Does anyone have color puictures of this aircraft or Worth's Electra?

Just a note on the Mirage. The Mirage II is classic legal. The Mirage III isn't. Only real difference is the III has a trike gear and a little hood over the canopy. The II has the fuse mounted gear.

It's a cool plane. I've thought about building one also.

The plans I have show both versions of the nose and gear mounting.  Only reason I have not done it, look at how many ribs there are.  Would have to convert to I-Beam construction to save on wood.  Inboard ribs are only ones that have wood removed from them. H^^

Doc,

Yea, it has a lot of ribs. Cool elliptical planform, though.

There sure are a lot of ribs but they are only 1/16" balsa .... easy to make by the stack & carve method. The wing planform is from Rondinelli's Venus if I recall correctly. Gerry liked the way Venus flew so much that he incorporated the wing planform into the Mirage.

First the Barracuda now the Mirage, you certainly have a knack for picking out some of the best subjects.  Personally I think the Mirage is the best performing of any of the classic era designs.

The bird was overall white with dark blue leading edges and fuselage top paralleled by a red speedline.

I've got a partially built Mirage II. Not much, just a fuse box. I don't even remember why I bailed on it. Probably just ADHD. Something else took my attention.
