Jerry McMillin's California Jet
« on: November 18, 2010, 07:34:02 PM »
My father Jerry built two Shark derivatives in the late 60's
The remaining model has been hanging in my parents house, and then my house for 40 years. I found a drawing of it, and sketched onto the side of the drawings were several names. I liked California Jet. This model has conventional gear with Sea Fury-like gear doors, Williams Bros racing wheels and a dramatic swept fin. The cockpit is highly detailed with a doll from the Major Matt Mason series from the period, and it's powered by an ST46.

Here is a picture of the cockpit.

 Sounds to me like it needs to get restored or finished and flown. y1 And what's with the "teaser" photo? Sounds cool, let's see it! ;D :##

Hi James,
For you younger guys, he was a mid-sixties Mattell action figure with three other buddies. Dad used Sgt. Storm in the Shark, I played with Major Matt for a while before my little brother used him up.

Check this link;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_Matt_Mason

They are really heavy, dad sawed him in half and then hollowed him out with a Moto-Tool.

Thanks Chris, believe it or not I wasn't being ornery (hard to believe I know :)) but I honestly had no idea who it was.  Thanks for the "younger guy comment", appreciate that now that I'm passed 40 LL~.

Yes Bill,
There was this one (the one I think is bigger) and the AMA-68 which was white, red and blue like the original All American Eagle. I'm going to have to scan some old stuff in to get pictures posted, since it's windy, cold and rainy all week I might get a couple of things done in the garage, and with the pictures.

Major Matt Mason? Hmm, sort of like an early Buzz Lightyear.   ;D
