Well I got this far. She weighs about 18 oz right now. My calculations put her at about 32 oz final weight. That translates to a wing loading of about 11.5 oz per sq ft. At the limit and approaching PIG status.
But it is what it is.
Power is Fox .29 Stunt.
Five coats on the wing. I will be using one coat of primer and red dope on the fuselage and tail.
Hope it flys.

Thanks, Ty. I should try one of the club's. I prefer not crashing my own.
I just applied first coat of primer and I am thinking of keeping it one color to keep weight down.
It will probably come out to about 32 oz finished. I cannot get any heavier than that.
The old kits were heavy.

Yes the old kits could be heavy, but I found over the years, that they flew pretty darn good...........especially for the primarily sport flier like myself. ............ Most of them still flew better than I did. D>K H^^

Oh it will fly better than I can. This will probably be crashed pretty quickly. Learning causes crashes.

Or is it crashes cause learning? %^@ H^^ One of my first "real" control line planes was a Shoestring. I have very fond memories of her and how well she flew. I have no idea how many times I crashed then rebuilt her, but she did what was needed and got me onto my next big plane.....a Midwest Skyraider.

First and only Goldberg Shoestring I built was Fox .35 powered (no muffer) and had alum. landing gear legs. (there's another one in the stash) No idea what the weight was. As already stated, "It flew better than I could fly it." First plane I went inverted with. One of my all time favorite combo's..the Shoe and Fox 35. Although weight control while building is something to consider it's not the only thing when your just getting your wings. Your in for a great time me thinks.

Dave, my Shoestring flies just fine at 33oz with a Mcoy .35. It was also my first build after a long lay off at C/L. I had to add nose weight to mine to get it to balance. I hope you enjoy your Shoestring as I have with mine......Gene

That's interesting, Gene.
All mine—prototypes of the Brodak version—have weighed 29 oz and required 1/4–1/2 oz of lead under the tail—with an FP 20 for power.

Here in straylia the ' Bendix ' T/R Regs were writen round the Goldberg Shoestring Dimensions . 60 ft lines , 0.36 cu.in. injun .

You can see it has a hoary great Nelson .36 or somesuch . The Olde Oak in some Goldberg Kits lets em stand up to a bit or rough & tumble .

Id dome one with a FSR Magnum 25 pro , centuies back , Silk & Tissue over .no stickers .mightvebeen 36 Oz.

The Goldberg Shoestring was one of the best flying simple profiles, and still is. Some were lighter, but 28-32 oz. were typical weights.
I think I still have the first one I built 'cause it never had a serious crash. Not bad for learning how to at least try, if not fly, all the maneuvers.

A friend and I refurbished this Goldberg Shoestring during the winter. We found a roll of iron-on blue Coverite, and red Ultracote iron-on, cut specifically for this refurbishing job. Weight is not an issue, because we don't intend to compete with it in any manner. Pieces of the blue Coverite were sewn together to make the hinge for the elevator and stabilizer. It was a fun project to work on during the dark days of winter!

It came out to 32 oz and flies very well.

Second flight (fright). Engine too rich, very windy, my second flight in about two years and I am a beginner. Lines going slack, I backpedaled to save. Almost bought the farm as you can see.
Ty told me it was good training.
Third flight here was a better engine run.
I think I was lucky that I did not cream it today.
Seriously. We are talking almost seven second laps. I had to whip it around.

At least it is flying. Remember the hardest maneuvers to learn/teach is take off, level flight and landing. Once you find the needle setting and prop the plane likes you will start having even more fun. H^^
