So, here is Pat Johnston's new classic plane. A Shark 35. Power is an OSLA (I think a 46, but could be a 40). Weight is under 50oz, but I'm not sure how far under.

It is cool, though.

Mark,

He's done a couple in Yellow and Blue. And a bit of Red, but he tends to go with pretty basic colors and use his imagination in the graphics. I really like the Shark.

Ian Russell.
[I can remember the schedule o.k., the problem is remembering what was the last manoeuvre I just flew!].

Well, maybe. You need to remember that Lew's original was powered with a K&B .45. But not just any old K&B.45, 'cause a couple of days before the CLPA event Bill Wisniewski walked up to Lew and said, "Here's your engine". I suspect there were very few K&B .45s that had the specific output of that particular engine . . .

(Too many irons; not enough fire)

Ralph,

That was the Shark 45. This is the Shark 35 or what has been called the Mini-Mako. About 535 square inches. A 46 is a big engine in this plane.

Although knowing Pat, I'm a bit surprised he didn't stuff a Stalker 51 or Magnum 53 in the thing.

Bill,

Pat is big on the theory that you way, way, way over grunt an airplane then throttle it back. :)

Heck, he's planning put a .65 in his 620 square inch Spitfire.

I have always liked to overpower a stunt plane. The OS 46 LA is the pefect engine to do this with. Pat pretty well knows what he is doing with engines. I powered my Vector 40 with a super Tigre 46. With small venturey.and did the patern with a 4 1/2 oz. tank. When I told some flyers that I was going to do this they told me it was too much power but it ran perfect. The thing with running an overpowered setup is controling the engine run so there is no chance of it running away. HB~> S?P

What do you think about this for his next project?  LL~

You know, wih the new "mini" tubine engines, that would rival Paul and Howard's B-17!  And the paint job would just blow the judges away. y1
