Has any one built the Skyscraper 60"ws  for Classic? and how did it fly with todays modern engines?

I just made a set of laser Skyscraper ribs for Rod Claus, but he is just starting on the airplane. The airplane looks like it should fly well.

One of my *Mates* from down under used to campaign a Skyscraper.  With a ST G51, ST 60, PA 51-61, etc., it should be killer!

One thing many people overlook is that the plane is supposed to have dihedral.........

Hi Larry

One of my friends here built one, his flies very well, he used a 45 I built for him, keep it straight and light and you will have a winner

Tom & I have been working (with Tom doing all the work) to bring this beautiful design back.We are using more current design and building methods while maintaining the dihedral. The original had a Veco 45, so a PA 51 should be a nice combination.
Tom has the plans available along with a nice set of laser-cut ribs he has developed.
I want to personally thank Tom for his great communication and workmanship while developing this project.

Hi Dave:

Do you have the means to get a scan of the Skyscraper photos on here? For that matter, does anyone out there have photos of this model they can post?

Dave, you were sorely missed at the Vintage meet at Napa today. We needed your big loud sparker engine and Stuntwagon (if I recall correctly). No other sparkers showed up.

Hi Dave,

Mr. Palmer used aluminum dihedral braces, that's the main reason I remember the dihedral! LOL!!  Plus, he soldered a fuse cap (old car fuse) over the overflow vent tube on the tank.  Something I had never seen before.  Also his use of over/under leadout exits.

The fuselage gives me a great impression of an enlarged Smoothie......... sorta! ;D

Larry, thanks for scanning and posting the start of the Skyscraper article. Would you be able to scan in the rest of the article, and the magazine plans? I would sure like to see the entire article.

Thanks

Here's the magazine plan.  If you can wait a day or two I'll try to get it scanned in and converted to a .pdf that I can email...

Thanks Larry and Dennis.

I started reading the article , and was intrigued by Bob's thoughts on why he went bigger. It seems he was hoping for what we seem to have found with some of the big bores, the Euro Run. Now, I'll be able to finish reading the article.

I've seen the original at VSC some years back. It was a nice looking design. I'd heard that it flew well. It appears from the article, that Lew's Shark was also an inspiration to him.
