But I was never worried about whether or not the flaps could be made movable. ;D  Having built off the Midwest plans, I knew they could be both ways. LL~ LL~  Even the Sterling P-51D, Yak 9 and PDQ/Brodak Super Clown are the same......

I'm in the process of building a Pat Johnston Magician with both wing panels equal. I moved to stab back two inches as Pat suggested and left the flaps stationary. I've flown Magicians with both moveable and stationary flaps and really couldn't tell the difference or if there was a difference I was too young to know. lol

Here is a pic of the Pat Johnston Magician I am building. I need to install the wood where I cut the fuselage to install stab and elevator and then ready for fillets and final sanding before applying silk and dope. McCoy 35 red head for power.

Question for Ty--------Do you attribute the "monster" Magician to the fact that you moved the stab back AND added moveable flaps, or JUST the fact that you moved the stab back ?

If you keep it under 40 oz with a Brodak 40 for power, this plane does not need moveable flaps to corner well. I have a pile of placques to prove it. H^^

     Thanks for your humble & honest answer !  The reason I'm intersted is because the Magician I'm finishing up now has the stab moved back around 3".  No moveable flaps.  It should be flying in a couple of weeks and then I'll know the story, good or bad.  Will have to fly it some till I can remember how to do this C/L stuff.  And if I can keep it out of the ground for the first dozen flights or so, I should be able to tell how well it does fly, as opposed to how well I don"t !  LL~
