Title: Ever had one of those planes?
Post by: Randy Powell on December 22, 2007, 06:27:58 PM
I'm continuing to struggle with the refinish on the Cobra. Ya know, some planes just seem to fall together. It seems that everything works  and no significant problems arrive. There there are others ...

This thing had fought me every step of the way. It seems if something could go wrong, it did. This is largely due to the time of year., I know, but really. The pens seems like they are working well (for inking), it seems that no matter how well prepped, the paint bleeds under the tape, no matter how much care is taken, there are touch ups to do, no matter how careful I am, I can't get the decals to work right (bleed, cracking, man, I'm on my third set of decals).

I'm about really to throw the thing in the rack, forger it until summer and just spectate at VSC.

Hey Ty,

I just had to fall back and regroup. The new decals are drying even as we speak and will, hopefully, be OK. At this point I just want the darn thing done. This is not the time of the year to be painting, that's certain.

I plan to get the new PA plane covered and a couple of coats of clear on the wait for better weather to paint it and start building something else.

Keep in there Randy,

I need inspiration too.

Many thanks to you and Ty, and Dennis, and Bill, and Uncle Mikey, and...

Merry Christmas to all.

All I can say Randy is HANG IN THERE!  When you first see it in the sun, when you hear the first appreciative comments.  When you start flying it and see that classic shape drawing beautiful pictures in the sky - THAT's when you will know that it ws worth it!

Dennis,

I'm considering brining in a exocist. Maybe it's the shop. Could have picked up a nasty demon.

Naw, it's actually coming out OK. Should look really good from 10 feet off.

Yep, been there, many times. HB~> The patience to get through all of this is what typically separates the "stand out" models from the "others".
Hang in there Randy, it's all worth it the first time you see it out there at the end of the lines! y1

Well, I went out today to inspect and the decals that were perfect, have not suddenly bled. They look all blurry. So, I pealed them off (it's the third set in the trash) and think I will just have some vinyl masks made and shoot paint. I am really tired of screwing with this thing.
