hello there
i had laser cut ribs, fuselage and tail of and All American and while dope was drying on another model managed to put this one toguether
will be powered by Enya 30
my first attempt with polyspan
and painted with the "usual" Star & Stripes, but brazilian flag colours
always wantes to build this one since my 15 years old, finally made it
will post pictures of the finishing.
the building was so fast that i missed the chance to take more pictures!

while priming and sanding the Starduster, managed to complete the building, now itīs covering time!

Did you keep the inboard wing at 3" longer?
And you will power it with what?
Is this a customer's model or your own?

roght now the CG is on the wheel collars hahaha, had to add a few lead ballast to the tail, come really nose heavy!
yeap, 3" longer inside, looks odd but iīll live with that (maybe taking some medicine to tame my obsessions with simmetry)
someone told me that his plane have a tendency to come to the center of the circle, started to be worried with flight characteristics, but really, this one is built just for fun, no expectations of a good flyer.
i have only added tail wheel (used the tail skid as a cover to bury the wheel)
sheeted the back of the wingtip for better polyspan attachment and thatīs all
since i have no kit to compare, i am not sure if anything else was changed
finishing will be polyspan wing and carbon veil fuselage
right now have 3 dope layers sanded with 320 sandpapaer

Fred, once the plane is done and ready for flight make sure the engine is broke in. I still have my AA Sr hanging on the hook. Has flown at VSC (Vintage Stunt Championships) in Tuscon Arizona. On grass the take off is not that bad if you make a smooth take off. On pavement be on your toes and immediately start moving backwards to keep the lines tight, same on grass but not as much. The landings is where you have to land it F2C racing style. In other words you give down elevator to keep it planted to the surface. If you try landing like a normal stunt plane you will have many landings other wise known as bounces before it stops. It takes practice. It is a fun plane to fly, also don't forget the wingtip weight.will be more than normal.

Were you tempted to shorten the nose and add a bit to the tail length?
I think this has been done before with the All American SR.? (Note my question mark.)

well, Brazilian breakfast is not fancy as USA version! the usual is bread with butter on the hot plate (pão na chapa) and a cup of coffe with milk (média) hahaha
and the coffee comes in a "copo americano" sorta american glass, donīt know why this name, but itīs the one in the picture.
My BEST breakfast ever was on HW1 on a nice stop at Davenport. Full American breakfast with eggs, sausage, bacon, bread and coffe!

havenīt tried to change anything to keep the originality of the model!

do you think i still need wingtip weight with 3" extra inboard wing? i thought thta the extra lift would overcome the weight
i fly from pavement, that would be tricky for sure! hahahah

Yes, I have wing tip weight in mine. Forgot to say, once airborne they fly better than the pilot that tries to fly them. H^^

well, 5 years or so after this dead thread, i am back.
i have gave up finishing the model, and sold ready to be painted for a friend.
2 years ago, a long time friend came to my town and gifted me his original All American kit , so, i had to build and finish this one.
but thereīs more to the story: when i started c/l back in 1984, i was waiting my ride to the field with my model in front of my house. An "older "man passed through and asked me where we used to fly, and he told me he was a c/l flier from south of the country and moved to the northwest ( where i was living back then). He then showed up at the field on same day and we spent a lot of time talking ( he moved from same city i was born in south) and he was living a few steps from my house. he invited me to see his models and 14 years old me went there. He showed me 2 things that really caught my attention> a ME BF100 twin engine and he won a south american scale with the plane ( immediatly i decided i would be a scale c/l competitor, wich actually took 37 years to happen) and the other thing was this vintage all american sr kit by demeco. i was amazed with the model, back then in brazil we are forbid to import stuff, only if you travel and bring with you and we had a 200$ or so limit, so imports are really a "thing". We became life long friends and even after my return to my original city, são paulo, we kept in contact. 2 years ago he came for a visit and brought the kit for me! canīt tell how happy i am! this one is near finish now, already covered and ready for primer

Fred. Cool story.
Hal Debolt did say that the out-board wing was never supposed to be that short. But by time he noticed the error it was too late, and the kits were already in production.

Back when Harold DeBolt designed the AA Sr, many flew 'clockwise' (left to right on the ground.) Engine torque was reversed. It helped lift the longer inboard wing. No tip weight was needed, or very little if any...
I built and flew an AA Sr in the mid-1970's. Factory reverse rotation crankshafts were available for Fox35. So I set one up and flew the 'mirror-image' of early clockwise flying. (That also put the UP line forward!) No problem. Easier takeoffs and a bit easier landings.
Doc mentioned the drive-it-on landing style: Keep reasonable airspeed, wheel it on, then a breath of DOWN to 'stick' it. Another reason for bouncing landings was the far forward wheel location.
The Fox, BTW, flew exactly like it did in stock counter-clockwise form. You just had to flip the prop the other way to start. If you forgot NOT to punch the pavement when starting the model on its wheels, your hand might hurt enough to distract your flying.
Don't ask how I found that out H^^.

Fred - it may be the camera but it looks like your wings are nearly equal span. To fully appreciate the All American Sr experience they need to be wildly different in length. Just asking - Ken

itīs like the plans, huge assimetry! i played a trick with the size of stripes and maybe that helped.
