Title: A question for classic experts

So, Jerry Worth, prior to designing the Apteryx, designed the Mirage. There was a Mirage II and III. The Mirage II is classic legal. The III is not. Now the question. I have the plans but it isn't clear if the Mirage II is the one with the fuse mounted gear or the one with the tricycle gear. Other than that and some details, they are the same plane. So, which is which? I thought the fuse mounted gear was the II but I was looking at the original American Aircraft Modeler article and it is entitled the Mirage III and shows the fuse mounted gear version.

So, which is which?

If I build this beast (and it is a beast), I want to make sure I build the classic legal version.

Mirage 3 was published in MAN 1968.

Gordon,

I have the article. It says it's about the Mirage III and shows pictures of the version with the fuse mounted gear. The plans I have (from MAN) seem to indicate that the fuse mounted version is the II and the trike gear version (with other changes) is the III. It's not really clear on the plans, just how they are laid out.

So, I was hoping that someone that knew could tell me which is which.

According the the John Pond plan listing, the article was in the February, 1969 isssue. The bits I have of the article don't show the publication date. I suppose it if was published then, then both versions should be eligible.

They re both legal, published in Feb 1969, with plans clearly showing both the fuse gear (M-II) and trike (M-III) seems like a slam dunk.  In the text for fuselage construction there is this statement, "It is wise, if you are building the Mirage III version, to use some glasscloth and resin to reinforce the corners and joints of the nosegear bulkhead, F-1."

No matter which version you get to carve 3 wheelpants!

I keep trying to find a picture of the Mirage III. There are some of the II. And I got a really good one from Wynn Paul. But no one seems to have a picture of the III.

Gordon, yea, and I was wrong about eligibility as Dennis pointed out. Glad that was straightened out.

I saw the Mirage 2 (tail dragger) never saw Mirage 3 (trike).  You could have the first one ever to be photographed if you are so inclined...

Should be a great project, I have plans and have always liked the planes, I would build one..one day...  too many   planes.. so little time
