'62 Ares Plans
« on: November 08, 2013, 02:38:56 PM »
Anybody have a source for '62 Ares plans? This is for the beautiful metallic green one that Bill Werwage flew with an AT 36 at VSC for a few years. I believe that it is a bit bigger than the '59 Ares but smaller than the Super Ares that followed.

Thanks!

Check Randy Smith's plans list (www.aeroproduct.net/clplans.htm).  He has the '63 Super Ares plan (60" span) listed for $15.

If you can track Bill down, he has them. I think they were drawn by Warren Tihart (did I spell Warren's name right?). Bob Hunt always knows how to contact Bill. I don't think that you'll find that any kit plans are equivalent. Several of these have been built, a couple really good versions by Wes Dick and Bob McDonald. They're out there.

That is the one Serge.  What a beautiful airplane!  I think I read it is around a 53" - 54"  wingspan so would perhaps be even better than the smaller '59 Ares with an AT36.

Thanks to everyone for their replies.  I will give Bob Hunt a call and see what I can track down.

Is this the small one?

Text says 1960, 52in span.
Ares - Control line stunt model. National stunt champion, 1959. Fox 35 engine shown. Hobby Helpers group # 560.
I built a Blue Pants as a kid. Wish I still had it. Might even learn to fly it.

The three "major" Ares are the '59 (kitted by Ambroid and now Brodak and published in American Modeler in 1960), the '62 Ares (never kitted nor published), and the "Super" Ares (also not kitted nor published).  At the time, Billy could not get the right power in the '62 Ares so he went back to the '59 version and soon the Super Ares (K&B .45).  Billy says that now, with modern powerplants, these are great planes.  Contest results back this up.  :o   ;D

Randy Smith has all three plans, all were drawn from the originals by Warren Tiahart (yes Billy still has the originals).
