Here's my New Magician, where's yours?
« on: February 25, 2016, 04:05:41 PM »
I am continuing to build replacements for or the planes I wanted but never made from my youth. At the Perry GA swap meet last year I picked up an original Midwest Magician kit for $15. Took it home, a couple months later I looked in the box and was very disappointed- I only saw one spar, no landing gear, and on quick inspection it looked like half the kit was missing. Well, last month I gave it another quick look and decided it was worth building, and I would just make new parts. To my surprise, the only thing missing was the landing gear. I am not much good at bending wire, so I put an ad up looking for one and started building. In quick time, I got a message from Doc Holiday saying I should contact Jim Kraft.. I did and he VERY kindly whipped me up a beautiful set of gear  y1 . Construction went quick and easy, great kit. I did some stuff new to me- Installed a suspended phenolic bellcrank, carbon fiber pushrod w/ ball links, and did the leadouts using the Doc Holiday method. Motored it up with a brand new FS 35 Stunt I got a while back, with an Evolution 36 tongue muffler with and extra row of holes drilled. 10x5 BYO prop. Uniflow with a brodak tank. I should mention that I elected not to have movable flaps, since just about all my other planes do. With such a long tail moment I think it will be good without them. I haven't weighed it, but it seems light to me. Ready to fly now , just waiting on some graphics from my friend Charles  ;D

Anyone have any idea why it won't let me attach more pictures? No matter how small they are, it says they are too large...

I should mention, with the setup I used the balance was right on or maybe just a tad bit behind what is shown on the plans... I could probably get away with using the OS 762 muffler that came with the motor, but it is said that they somewhat limit the power- we can't have that! Also, I replaced the stock 1/8" stab/elevator with some stiff 3/16". Can't wait to fly it.

They are all WELL under 1000kb. I've put multiple pics on many of my posts, but for some reason it just wouldn't let me on this one. But that's beside the point, let's get beyond that and you should all be giving me kudos for my wonderful plane, or saying it's a piece of junk  mw~ BADBILL out  S?P

You guys are all too easy... what the hell it that atrocious gold, blue, and silver thing pretending to be a Magician?

Bad Bill did not build this...he has much more aesthetic class and knows every Magician needs to be florescent yellow at least on the rudder

I think he is punking us and found some e-bay photos

If you look closely you will see a flaw or two on the nose and canopy...Wild (AKA Bad) Bill would never allow this

He is just trying to get us all interested in Building a better Magician....because he is bored

OK OK... I am being a bit full of it...LOl...grin   VD~

Bad Bill
that is a sweet ride.... I even like the color choices...but for the life of me can not get Gold or Silver to ever look good

When are you coming to visit and school me some?

Bad,

Just read that you used "Gold" on the fuselage.

You must have white or yellow under it as a base, correct?

Looks really good!  H^^

Thank you Jim! This was proven out today, it flies very well. Boy, that .35 FPS is a gem too. Quite satisfied with the whole project!
