Title: What now
Post by: john vlna on June 05, 2014, 06:06:41 PM
Just when I though I had seen it all.... ~^ Last Sunday while flying I landed in the grass. ( we did not have a deck set up), The landing jammed my hook into the stabilizer. It was not even a hard landing! Needless to say there is now a stop so the hook can't jam up.

Another example of "What ever can happen, will happen"!
3 years ago I had a great 100 point landing until the bend in the hook broke off when the arresting line came to a stop and the plane ran off the deck
2 years ago my hook kept bouncing over the arresting lines, no points there as well.
1 year ago, OH to %&%&^*! with it.

That probably looks worse than it is.  I usually have the hook hang up on the tail wheel.   One year I did leave the hook on the deck with a Class II plane on landing.  Couldn't get the engine to throttle back like it was supposed to.

My best tail hook story was at the Westover NATS in early 1990's. The ramp was about 1/8" lower than the deck. My class I hook caught the 1/8 and ripped out. The way I had built it it caused no damage, I pulled it out and flew again! HB~>

Wayne look forward to seeing you #^

The year was 1992 and I have John on a video telling me that it just wasn't his day as he walked through the pits with a severely damaged Arabonito.

Yes but it flew again. Actually I still have some of the parts and may rebuild it again someday. Old carrier planes never die they just get re-kitted. y1
