A good friend called yesterday and asked me about using 2.4. He wanted to find out what I recommended. I sent him several pictures and a note or two. Here's one or two shots. anyone interested in seeing more? Would you provide pictures?

I just use a plain car controller and regular 2-line handle. This allows me to work the throttle while starting the engine and running to the handle.
Those combined setups rob you of that ability.
I have also added a neck lanyard to the RC controller so I can let go of it if necessary without it hitting the ground.

Paul, I tried that method, but with my balance problems I just can't do it. I even mounted the TX in a small box that was belted to my side, but again it would not work. (OK now you know it, Joe is unbalanced!)

Aren't we all Joe, especially me I will try to get picture of my set up. It has been pull tested and I would not use it on a Class I or II. D>K

Take a look at the kids in the back room of Larry's RC.
They can drive those cars around the track with the handle & throttle in their left hand and work the steering wheel with the right.
Damn good drivers, I must admit.
They have the right, left, approaching and going away issue down perfectly.
Also, no left-handed radios that I could see.

See my post 'My Sport Gaurdian' D>K.

I feel that I can fly better with the two handle approach. It does get to be a bit much with a high speed 3 1/2 lb plane though. So I have both types of handles for the really go fast ones

I like the handle to be as small and light as possible. I also find that when I touch the handle with my left hand, let's say it had a toggle switch or a trigger I tend to jiggle handle resulting in a poor flight quality. With the large models I like to have all four fingers around the handle, with the index finger working the trigger you only have your three smaller fingers holding and flying the model.
I hang the transmitter on my hip and that transmitter flies all of my airplanes, but each airplane has a dedicated set of lines and handle. I un-roll the lines and the keep the transmitter with me at all times and operate the throttle and other features by feel.
Use what works for you I have seen so many different combinations, one Nats pilot flies with a stunt handle and holds the RC car radio in his left hand and works the trigger that way. nice way of doing it.

I've been using an inexpensive FMS airplane Tx for my throttle. The Tx is very light weight and small. I hold the Tx in my left hand and operate the throttle with my thumb. It works great. Did very well with this set up at Brodaks, just ask the guys......Skip
