Title: Sterling Hellcat square inches?
Post by: Walter Hicks on March 12, 2015, 11:39:09 PM
Today marked a successful flight of a restored Sterling Hellcat that is set up for Carrier It now has a 2.4 throttle system that works awesome.
My question is with an FP .35 does this plane qualify for Sport .40 event that currently being flown in Oregon . I would like to fly carrier at the
contest in Portland next month. I cannot find what the square inches are for the Hellcat , I understand that the limit is 400 sq inches for
the sport 40 ???<a href="http://s82.photobucket.com/user/kickercoach12/media/IMG_0347.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j262/kickercoach12/IMG_0347.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo IMG_0347.jpg"/>[/url]

Hi Walter, NW Sport 40 carrier specifies 300" sq, not 400. The Sterling Hellcat easily makes that. Tomorrow I'll check my unbuilt kit and get an exact number but rest assured...your'e in. 8)

Walter, only 2 engines allowed in NW .40 Profile. They are the FP .40 or the FP.35. Hope to see you in Portland. I too (between officiating) will fly a 2.4 profile.

Paul,  Any 300 SQ  inch wing. Profiles only,Knowing you I really think you would love this event!
Engines, only FP .35 or FP.40 or Tower .40.  Factory muffler as provided in original size and #
Contest provided 10% fuel (we are now voting on changing that rule) Scoring as per AMA rules, no scale points, but plane must show some sort of insignia (Amerian, Japanese  or whatever)  No sliders or movable leadouts.

Do you allow muffler pressure like some are doing in parts of this great land?

Rulz:  http://www.flyinglines.org/rules.nwsport40.carrier.html (http://www.flyinglines.org/rules.nwsport40.carrier.html)

They are admirably quick, but not at all dirty.  They're in plain language, short, and to the point -- so you have no excuses not to read 'em!

ABSOLUTLY!!! Makes a lot of sense, particularly in the ease with witch you can get a good reliable engine run! Doc, just like Sportsman Carrier at Brodaks.  There in 2011 I used a tongue muffler on my wildcat proto with an Irving .36. Marc got a good needle set for me and that flight was just wonderful!

Not really like Sportsman at The Brodak.  They allow sliders and require 36's without pressure.

Paul, John allowed my muffler pressure in 2011. see above.

At Brodak we allow sliders and muffler pressure in sportsman. The NCS has always allowed sliders in Sportsman, but muffler  or any other kind of pressure is not allowed in AMA profile.
