Title: Sniper wing area?
Post by: Jim Roselle on January 21, 2015, 03:58:03 PM
I was hoping someone  could tell me the wing area of the sniper .15 carrier model.

Thanks in advance,

Jim

One more sniper question. What's the distance from the trailing edge to the elevator hinge line?
I'm thinking of scratch building something for .15 carrier.

Thanks in advance,
 Jim

Unless your really aiming at being in the top of the event, why not try something that looks like an actual Navy airplane?

That's the plan, but I may tweak the dimensions a little for a better chance of a good flyer.
I'm thinking a F2G Super Corsair with a sheet wing.  It will be a 3/16 wing, double thickness to 50% chord for a kfm airfoil.

I don't understand your last sentence. Is the wing going to be 3/8" at the mid cord area? I don't know what kfm means?

Try PM'ing Bill Bischoff, I think I bought plans and cores from him a few years ago when I built mine.  They fly better than I can.

I have attached some information by Bill Bischoff on the Sniper. This is from an NCS news letter back in 1993.  Eric

Re KFm wings. They evolved from paper airplanes and are widely used by the rc community for foam airplanes. I have used them for about 5-6 years for simple foam wings, and they seem quite effective in carrier.
