I have a G-S Skyraider kit that Iwould like to start working on. I am thinking of going to all exposed controls using a lot of the ideas that Bill B. has posted on here. But, I guess that would make the plane ineligable for Nostalgia. If I can get the carb out of the Super Tiger so I can refurbish it.

Doc, If you want a "modern" Skyraider, I'd recommend scratch-building one rather than converting the GS kit. You can use the same outlines, but I would suggest a symmetrical airfoil set at zero degrees incidence, and a simple balsa slab fuselage. Foam or wood wing, fuselage or wing landing gear at your discretion.
-
If you are intending to build it for nostalgia, you are allowed to change the controls to external, but of course no moveable leadouts.
-
Bill, I am unaware of changing leadouts to the outside of the wing is legal. Please explain the legality. Was the Skyraider designed that way?

From the NCS Nostalgia rules (attached below):
5.2. Allowable Modifications:
5.2.1. Landing gear may be changed in length or material, but must exit
the model at the original position. A tail wheel may be substituted for a
skid and vice versa. Wheels may be of any diameter.
5.2.2. Leadout position may be changed from that shown on the plan.
Ground-adjustable leadouts are permitted.
5.2.3. Control travel, control mechanism location, and control mechanism
may be changed.
5.2.4. Tip weight may be changed or may be adjustable

My Crusader has external controls, where the original had internal. I've flown it in Albuquerque twice, where Dick Perry "blessed" it.

The GS kit I bought off eBay had horrible ply and the stab/ elev. profile didn't match the plans (easy fix). Also check for warpage on your hardwood stringers (pine/spruce?) Mine got aborted and parted out. :'(

Thanks gentlemen for the responses. Now to get pencil to paper and start making templates.
