I decided to a build a mainly-for-fun Sig Skyray.
There aren't mainly events for this anymore, but I have few engines on hand that qualify.
I guess there's still Muncie, the NCS Top 20 and a few local "fly any event" contests.

This is a very basic home build, including the wing framing fixture.
-
I have a SkyRay 35 set up for carrier that has only been flown once. Needs engine broken in more. Also the incentive to fly it more. D>K
By the way looks like a lot of work for a simple plane. S?P

Another choice might be the Brodak "Super-Fly". I built two of them and they fly very well! Also an easy set-up for 2.4.

This isn't for NWS 40, it's for Sig Skyray, so only a Skyray will do.
-
OH Yea! One of the more popular national Carrier classes of all time!

I have a Skyray that was built around 1991, it has flown glow and currently is electric. It is one tough bird. People still show up and fly them in local contests even though it does not get bonus points. I learned a lot about flying carrier with that old skyray.

I settled on a silver plastic finish, but for some reason old silver went bad & wouldn't stick, so I fell back on the blue & orange scheme.
First carbon veil, then sil-vo-fil on the body.
-
Final assembly with the usual jo blocks.
-
All done for now.
I will have a tank building session some time in maybe March of 2019. Division of labor, you know.
My (possible) next job showed up. A Brodak P-40. P-40's took off from carriers in the Atlantic, but didn't land. Maybe a bad omen.

It is OK for NWS 40!

NO.
NWS 40 requires an OS FP 40 or one of the identical clones. This model has an older K&B 40. But I could get legal by swapping-in an OS 40.
Also, NWS 40 only requires 300 square inches, but the Skyray has 400, so it's bigger than it needs to be.
I use a Goldberg Cosmic Wind for NWS 40. It's a little oversize, too. I'm considering something else new for that event.
