Two Days of Carrier (and Combat)
« on: May 08, 2013, 08:45:53 PM »
This is a copy of the email that I sent out last night to several Navy Carrier flyers in my "local" area or who have ties to my local area.

All:

A note to let you know that due to the snow-out of our contest and the loss of the Sig Contest, we have decided to have "Two Days of Carrier (and Combat)" here at our Polk City site -- Mal Fawley is putting in a sanction for June 15-16.   The Chicago guys are going to come over (again) and I'm going to put an announcement up on Stunthanger.com.  We realize that this may conflict with some peoples schedules - particularly the Brodak contest ending at the same time but for this year, at least, and due to the rather short lead time, this was the best we could do for this year.  Next year we may move it to the (old) Sig weekend -- ie: the following week -- if this year goes well enough to continue in the future.

.....

I hope that you will consider joining us either this year or in the future.  We will sanction it as probably a AA contest.  The sanction will be for Class 1-2 combined, Profile, .15 Profile, and NCS Sport (all other classes combined: Sportsman, Skyray, Nostalgia, Electrics, etc.), but the real intent is to fly as much carrier and as many flights as we can cram into two days.  Pete and Bill both mentioned needing a Nats tune-up, and not having any available between now and July.

The atmosphere will be laid back, but scoring will be by the book so that scores can be submitted and if any records would happen to be set, they will count.

Please pass this on to anyone you think may be interested either now or for possible future get-togethers.  Or reply with any names that you may be able to think of.

Thanks, guys.

Mike Anderson

I'm attaching a couple of pics that Wayne Willey took last Saturday of our field - in the second one you can see the circle where the deck would normally be busy on this day, if I'd been able to get the deck out of my back yard and out to the field.

The sanction has been submitted - I'm not sure yet how we'll handle the events - whether there will be two separate 'contests' (1 Saturday, 1 Sunday) or whether we'll do 3 attempts for two officials taken EITHER Saturday or Sunday or whether we'll do all the Officials on one day.  It depends on what the competitors wish to do.  The real purpose is not so much to compete as to fly.

The turnout looks very encouraging so far and it is stirring up a little interest in my local Newbies also.  David and Michael are planning on making the trip from the East Coast, the 'Chicago trio' of Pete, Bill C, and Art have said that they'll be here and I'm planning on taking a truckload of planes out.  Maybe a couple of others will join in ( .. Doc?).   :)!

If the weather cooperates, we are going to have a ball.

Oh, and the Combat guys will keep the other circle busy all weekend, too.  There should be plenty of opportunity to fly both Carrier and Combat, if you wish.

(edit -- With regards to the weather and the above pictures -- todays high (10 days after the pictures were taken) is predicted to be 94  ???)

Boy, there's no pleasing some people. "It's too cold. It's too hot...."  VD~ Sorry we didn't get to fly. If we didn't have a contest here that same weekend, I'd consider making the trip north again. Maybe next time.

Didn't say "Too Hot", just that it's going to be somewhat warmer.

Is your Dallas contest always that weekend?  We still haven't ruled out taking the Sig weekend in the future.

And thanks for helping us get some flying in - even if it was all Combat - on Sunday.  Sunday actually turned into a very nice day.

We've been having our contest on Fathers' Day weekend for over 25 years. I think Sig is (was) typically the weekend after that. I might be able to work with that in the future.

Ouch!!  Sorry -- didn't mean to step on your date.  Even though we are a spread out population in the midsection I know of a couple who may have to choose.  We will keep that in mind in the future.

Yes, for years it has been Brodaks Fly In the week before Fathers Day and SIG the weekend after.   Polk City is closer to me than Dallas so I am crossing fingers.
