Title: RYAN NR-1
Post by: Kelly Wilson on March 02, 2010, 08:33:35 PM
Does anyone know if the Ryan NR-1 was ever flown off of a carrier or was it just a land based trainer?

According to wikipedia it was a trainer plane only.  Does not mention a carrier hook ever being installed.  Later versions had the option of being land based or equipped with floats for water flying.  I just typed in Ryan NR-1 navy plane and quite a few sites came up and none showing carrier type plane. Oh Well!! Just a thought. It had possibilities and would have looked better than a MO-1

Yeah, a little kit bashing and you possibly could make the Horizon Hobbies PT-19 into a Ryan NR-1 for a quickie profile and it comes with a .36 engine. The Brodak PT-21 would be a good starting point for a Class I or II. Oh Well!! Too much idle time on my hands this week. I've got a Martin AM-1 and a A7E Corsair on the bench back home than need finishing first anyway.

Kelly, add a hook and it will be eligible for the Postal Carrier Contest this year. Email me direct for a set of rules.
