Consolidated XBY-1 Repair
A number of years ago I build a profile model of the Consolidated XBY-1. This was a prototype that never made into production. I got the idea from a Peanut scale plan I saw in the now defunct Model Builder Magazine. The first one had a nearly scale fuselage.
Version 1 crashed at the NATS one year when the slider popped on take off. Rather than repair it I built a second with a slimmed fuselage. But I never throw anything away and the original lived it my garage attic until a few months ago. The main damage was to the wing which had been trashed, so I figured a new wing and it almost will be back in the air. Since the original had a Wiley which I have sold, I decided to go electric.
Right now I don’t know where I’ll be able to fly it, if you haven’t heard all flying for a 30 mile radius has been shut down in the DC area. You know CL is just such a big threat. All fields have been closed and it is not clear when or if they will be allowed to reopen.

Man what a bad deal about flying around D.C.
I was stationed at Ft Meyer in the 60's and we used to fly control line right in the pentagon parking lot, we had a good group of Control line guys all stationed in and around the area and the PX even had a hobby shop.
I had a rough in the army I was a limo driver at the pentagon and worked 7 to 5 and one week end a month. hard duty to say the least LOL.

yeah it is a bad deal. but wait until they start drawing circles around other airports, and I think they will.
PS I was assigned to Ft Myer (south Post) in the early 60's also. I never spent a lot of time there because I lived off post and worked at the Naval Security Group station near American U. My alma mater by the way.

I thought I would post some pictures of the rebuilt XBY. I tested it at Brodak's fly's pretty good, we'll see how it does in the wind at Muncie
Features a servo slider release. 4s, 1300Kv motor, APC 9x6.

Well I hope the weather gods will ease up on you guys.

Well some wind is good, but Muncie seems to work on the principle that more is better.

Hey, I've been there and was glad I was an official an not a competitor. It only blows on profile day, right. H^^

I throttled down a Class I up wind once and it blew in 10-15', some slow speeds that day were as fast as high speed. So no, it can always blow.
