Aeroplane Monthly out of England has a great article on the Blackburn Firebrand complete with a 3-view and color photographs for those interested. They have pictures from the carrier deck and other information. This airplane has a huge rudder.

Check out the Sept 2011 issue of Aeroplane Monthly, I get my copy a Barnes and Noble.

A plan for the Mark IV was published in Aeromodeller way back when. I believe it is nostalgia legal.

Does anyone have the original full size plans that they would be willing to copy and sell? The scaned ones from the magizine are horrible when enlarged. I think it was a trick to make it so they couldn't be copied! Mike Potter

OK I'll round up stuff and send it. I am not at the computer with the Nostalgia plan, but here is a 44" modernized version I designed. One is tiled for legal size paper, the other is full size.

Blackburn Firebrand from Dayton, Ohio. Builders name forgotten but Bob Heywood says the airplane still exists. Early seventies.

Someone smarter than me was able to get this to under 1Mb as limited by the forum. Enjoy, plan should be sized correctly and the article is included.

The Firebrand enlarged fine at 375%.
I attatched a set of a Sterling P-51 plans by Pat Johnson. He modified them for carrier and put the bellcrank on the outside. The flaps work like a stunt plane. I have done this before and it works fine. Mike

I am just curious, the pdf I posted was at full scale 34" span, (page 1). It should print at at approximately 36x30, what in the world are you enlarging?
The P-51 is neat. I have always mounted my bellcrank on the outside on profiles, makes adjusting much easier.

John, I printed it out on my printer 8 1/2x11 and enlarged it at office max. Worked fine. What you are talking about is saving it on a CD and having it printed from that. Correct? My CD burner is broken right now soooo

I send my stuff to Staples. The PDF I posted will print full size for the plan. I don't have an Office Max close but staples will accept an upload. Very easy. I just email the drawing and pick it up later..

I've been eyeing the plan in response #9 for quite some time. I would be concerned that it wouldn't pass the pull test with no engine bearers and the wing attached to soft balsa sides. Glass the inside real well and pull from the wing? I'm a relative newbie and any advice is appreciated.

It will pass a class I as is. I never built the Firebrand but I have flown the Mottin Skyraider for over 20 years. The only glass I ever used on the Skyraider was to glass the fuse/wing joint. It has a similar BC set up and has never failed a pull test.
