Carrier Videos On You Tube
« on: January 19, 2010, 04:41:10 PM »

I just put this video on last night. It isnt much but it is a start to putting Carrier videos on you tube.  As far as I know this makes only 2 videos of Carrier out of the thousands of videos of model airplanes.  I am working on more as we speak!

Good video David, tell the pilot not to be so obvious walking backwards during high speed.  While watching your video I seen the one about the Dayton NATS.  That had to have been in 1976.  I was trying to fly F2C at that period of time.  Still remember some of the people flying at that period of time.  Rossi's and Super Tigre were engines of choice back then.  Keep the carrier going.

I saw the other film that shows the 76 Nats carrier. Tough to watch but it was nice to see a Judy, class 2 I believe and Dick Perry's Seamew. Great stuff.

Yes, the 1976 Nats at Wright Paterson field was a great event and  had a fantastic turnout.  I was the event director and if I remember correctly we has 120 entries across the 3 events.  I ran one deck and my Dad ran the other and both of us are in the background in many sectons of the clips.  We had continuous flying on both circles for 2 full days. This was the last year carrier was flown under the "old rule"'.  Wonderful memories

Was it you or your Dad that got decked that year.  I didn't make it to the carrier deck as I was playing with F2C.  Got disqualified when I got a back up pilot to fly for me.  I was entered as an individual also.  Should have stayed with carrier in those years. :(

Hi John,

You have a great memory.  Yes My dad did get decked by Dave Wallick at the 1976 Nats  held at Dayton.  My Dad was running one circle, I was the event director and  was running the other one. To make a long story short, Dave's hook scrapped along the ground on his  landing approach.  It was seen by my dad and both of the timers.  When my dad shouted to Dave that he would not get landing points  Dave became very violent.  The 3 judges then showed him the scrape in the concrete that the hook had made but that did not matter. Dave hauled off, and when my dad was facing the other judges and talking to them, Dave hit him with his fist on the side of his head.  My dad immediately dropped to the ground (he was in his late 50's..Dave about 30).  I saw the commotion and  upon flight completion stopped the flying on my circle.  I  made sure my dad was OK and then ran to the hanger to notify the AMA officials.  They came out, heard what had happened,  called on their walkie talkies for some MP's and  immediately BANNED Dave from all competition for that Nats.  They (AMA)  also requested  my dad not to press charges.  We were informed by  a base officer  and the the MP's (who immediately came  and stood on each side of Dave) that we could have charged him with Assault and Battery.  If we pressed the charge the MP's would call the local police who would have immediately put Dave in jail.  We did NOT press for charges,  since we agreed with the AMA officials  that none of us wanted any adverse publicity during the Nats.  The MP's then escorted Dave immediately off the base.

It should be noted that  during plane inspection and measurements  held the evening before flying on day one, that both of the planes that Dave originally planned to enter were disqualified...His Guardian for being  dramatically out of  the scale  tolerances defined in the rulebook..in over 5 areas..and His Fulmar for having flaps 3 times the  size of the actual aircraft.  I had/have an extensive 3 view collection and all planes were measured against actual dimensions.  I was the event director and did the measuring myself along with 2 noted scale modelers from the Detroit area. All 3 of us voted for disqualification of Dave's models ( in should be noted that the same "disqualified models"  were used later in the year to set  2 records!!!). Also note that NO other planes..out of the over 120  (3 classes) that we judged were disqualified.  Dave then entered his backup planes.

Now you have the whole story 34 years later.

Thanks for the rest of the story.  As I was involved in F2C did not get to the carrier circles.

I have been trying to get some more videos up and running but for some reason you tube keeps giving me an error message on the other videos. I dont really know what Im doing though as far as the camera and and all that.  If the weather stays clear and I can get out of work at a descent time then I might try to do some flying and get some more videos.

One more video from flying yesterday. Just click the link for the other video and then click on my name on the side to find the new video. For some reason I cant find it when I just search for it. Unfortunately it is of my MO-1 but that is all I have flyable right now.  What isnt on the video is what happened after the camera stopped, I was trying to slow down to land and because of a bent clip the throttle line came off ant it went to full throttle, a little squirrely for the first few laps but i got it under control and just flew the tank out.

I believe the Judy was Terry Herron's .  I possibly misspelt his last name.

You are correct, it was Terry Herron's and it flew like a rocket. I have two pictures taken at Glenview either 70 or 72.
