Title: PhillySkip's Flight Report on Fun Carrier Plane
Post by: Skip Chernoff on January 26, 2018, 11:05:28 AM
Cold but very little wind today in Philly so I took out my Fun Carrier entry. I promise pics to follow. Having never flew any carrier plane or event this was a first for me. The plane flew great in my opinion. I had two flights. My Magnum xl 25 ran beautifully on 10/20 fuel 8x6 APC,stock muffler. Throttle control via Tx. I went 26 seconds for high flight and 1:22 seconds for low flight. I think I need more tip weight and to move my lead outs back a bit as lines were soft on low speed flight. I didn't have an arresting hook mounted. What are the rules on hook length? Thanks,Skip....pics will follow!

Well I'm the bad guy/  Best bet is go look up the rules and read them several times.  Makes for good reading at bed time. VD~

Doc are you coming to Brodaks this year? I'd love to meet you and talk model airplanes.

If your plane has at least 300 sq in it would be legal for the Sportsman carrier at Brodak's  in addition to Paul's unofficial event

Skip, I have a question.  Do you have a switch between the receiver and battery?   I'm in a quandary about how to set my radio up.    ???

John it is around 400 sq. inches.Doc ,I moved the battery into the outboard wing tip. I have a long R/C type servo extension cable running thru the wing .It exits about a 1/2 " from the fuse. After turning on my TX I simply plug the battery cable into the Rx which is taped to the fuse side. Simple, but effective!

Thanks for the info as the switch does take up a lot of space. H^^

Doc I flew the plane yesterday ,but it was waaaay too windy to attempt any real low speed flying. Also my arresting hook set up was not working as planned .It required too little movement of the up elevator and the hook deployed on take off from our grass field. I need to desensitize it.

It was a good day to try "wind flying" but I didn't have a plane with me that I was willing to sacrifice to the C/L Gods

The rules are basically AMA profile except we fly electric and glow combined and muffler pressure is allowed. . Most fliers are crossover from other events, and we give an extra 10 points for a Brodak kit. The flyin site rules are posted on the BRODAK SITE.
