The USS Brett L. Smith made her Inspection cruise today
« on: April 29, 2012, 01:05:49 PM »
Spring Kickoff is Sat-Sun, so made and inspection cruise with the deck today.  Decided to get the air wing up on the flight deck, and shoot some pix.  I was actually out there scrubbing the deck to get rid of some insect nest residue.  I never had to swab the deck when I was in the Navy for real ...  ;)

Anyway, we are set to fly this coming weekend - if you are in range, try to join us.

A few more pix - this year's new models.  A Class 1 MO-1 w/ a Picco .40, and a Class 2 with a Fox .46 ABC.

Both have Bill B's new style of slider and release.  Both weigh right at 43 ounces ( I really like those under 70 lb. pull tests).

Nice job Mike, hope to see it this weekend.  But isn't 97117 Wilk's AMA number?

Think for yourself !  XXX might win the Nats, be an expert on designing, building, finishing, flying, tuning engines - but you might not wanna take tax advice from him.  Or consider his views on the climate to be fact ...

Yeah - he talked me into hauling a couple of his planes home from 'Junque Night' in Chicago a couple years ago.  There was a nice flying Profile that I built a new version of - then passed on to a newbie (the copy I built is the Hellcat in the middle of the pack above).  This Skyray is either a club Carrier trainer or I'll give it to the same newbie.  There was also a biplane that I've not yet done much with.  It was $5 well spent.

Mike, I may be mistaken, but the smallish plane with yellow stripes on wing tips and almost all blue plane may be the only picture available of one of my "Penguin" profiles I made 4 years ago. They were made as basic Carrier trainers with removeable wings. Am I wrong?

No - the Penguin trainer was acquired from you by one of our club members (Curt Netcott).  He donated it to the club, another guy donated an engine (Fox .15 Schn/BB), and I donated the building/covering, lines and handle etc.  It is one of our club Carrier trainers.  I don't know if you originally donated it to him or how he actually acquired it - but in any case thanks.  It actually could be made to fly pretty well.
