New Profile Project
« on: March 13, 2012, 05:31:33 AM »
I have started on a new Profile Carrier project. With flying season coming around the corner (long corner) I decided to try building something differant. So I chose a Fairey Firefly T-2 trainer version. Its a low winger and will be powered with my usual Irvine .36. Approximately 32" length and approximately 40" wing. I will attempt to add a couple of pictures of my progress. Currently creating fuselage parts. This airplane is based on a design by my carrier friend Dan Radway. He built a Fulmar profile and I based my project on his. Thanks Dan.

Wayne,
An interesting project. If you like Firefly's maybe you would like this one.

CL but no bellcrank, only one canopy though

John, that is an oldie including ignition setup. This Firefly thing started when I visited the Royal Thai Air Force Museum at DonMuang Thailand in 10/08. So I started looking at three views and found the T-2 very interesting. The RTAF has a Mk-1 which is the only one left of 10 purchased by the Royal Thai Navy and included in the 10 were two T-2 training variants. The Royal Thai Navy commited a coup so the Fireflys were transferred to the RTAF. They were used against insurgent border conflicts.  So I am adapting a Dan Radway design for my T-2. BTW the fuselage is 3/8 thick then skinned with 1/16 ply for doublers and 1/16 balsa skins for the rest. I think the airplane is starting to look pretty cool.

The plan is one of hundreds posted on RCGroups at http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1265873&page=455
Some kind soul has organized them at http://www.outerzone.co.uk/index.asp

Do you think anyone ever flew a CL without a bellcrank as shown? Back then they didn't show the BC due to copyright issues.

Progress on the Firefly T-2. Cheak cowl is on, wing with no tips is getting done and the fuel tank is pre installed for clearance allowances. It's shaping up good if I have to say so myself. This airplane will use a Brodak 3 line system and an Irvine 36. I hope to have it totally done so I can get some testing by September. I will try to add some pictures.
Thanks

Very nice! Cheek cowls always look better than an open beam mount.

I hate to be Mr. Buzzkill, but somebody stole most of the parts off of your engine!

It's different- I like it. Will it be yellow as shown in the book?

Bill, its a new Irvine, I insert a battery. I hope to paint it in the yellow Royal Navy scheme although the gray and green was also used. I just thought it would be differant. I enjoy models that look somewhat prototypical.
Thanks

Well, I got it off the wall and made some adjustments to the tip weight, slider and rudder. So it flys. I will try some pictures.Seven flights so far and getting better. This airplane is based on a Dan Radway design that I reworked.
