Nelson .15 prop nut
« on: July 20, 2017, 11:24:23 PM »
I recently acquired a Nelson .15 for my carrier plane. It's a full ounce heavier than the Norvel it's replacing. I'd like to replace the heavy prop nut that's on it with a more traditional nut. Can I just use a standard stainless nut and washer?

Jim, I don't know the size used on a Nelson however once you figure that out I don't see why not. Make sure the washer has the correct inside diameter so it doesn't sit off center.

By chance will the nut and washer from the Norvel work on the Nelson or perhaps it is metric?

The norvel has a stud that screws into the crankshaft.

I ran 25 percent in mine and had good results. On the other hand I'm pretty sure Burt runs 35 percent in his with outstanding results.

The Nelson uses a US standard 1/4" stud.  Pre-much any standard prop nut will work.
