Title: Nelson .15 cooked?
Post by: Jim Roselle on July 25, 2017, 05:49:56 PM
So I fired up my new to me Nelson today. It fired on a 10% nitro prime last week after some sputtering and backwards running so I tried a run with 35% today. It would cough, sputter, and run backwards but no go on a real run.  I decided to try 10% since that's how it fired last week. Same thing cough, sputter, backwards. It likes a heavy prime and then acts flooded. It finally fired and I was only getting 21k with an apc 7x4. It died when I was adjusting the idle. When I went to restart hot, perhaps the most telling thing, compression was almost zero. I have didn't really try to restart after that as I was short on time. It seems like this thing is fried, I welcome your input.

Jim

Henry is still fixing his old engines.  Just send to him for a piston & bearing job.

Nelson 15's last a long time, but not forever.  When I was in F2d I used to run his 15's on 3 ounces of 40% countless times before they lost their punch.
