E-15 carrier?
« on: March 31, 2017, 12:19:40 PM »
Read all the rules for 15 carrier but can't find anything that says whether you can use an electric motor or not.
Built a modified Condor as per 15 rules, now I'm not sure if It can be flown in 15 carrier. (no movable surfaces except elevator)

Electric power may be used in the .15 Class. The max weight for an electric powered plane in this class is 2-1/2 lb.

You might want to search the forum for some of Eric Conley's posts on his .15 electric.

Unfortunately, the rules on the NCS web site are not current. The line sizes are now 0.012 x 52 ft - 6 in for 3-line control and 0.015 x 52 ft - 6 in for 2-line control.

We'll get the web site up to date.

15 Carrier is still a local Non-Rule Book event.  Local promoters are free to allow piston, electric or anything else they want.

My response in Reply #1 is based on the rules for .15 Carrier as promoted by the Navy Carrier Society and flown at the NATS as well as the events at Dayton, OH.

It is the same everywhere I have ever been. The only thing that I have ever seen differ is a couple places  allowing muffler pressure which in my opinion is no advantage at all.

At Brodak's we fly 15 with the rules as sketched by Bob. Details are on the Brodak web site under the annual Flyin tab
John

PS the rules as summarized on the site are basically what is used at the NATS.

John, in a past thread I noted that you allowed me to use muffler pressure in .15.  No great advantage, but then I does make it easier for me to get reliable slow speed runs using muffler pressure. As all my Carrier activity is geared to be at or near the bottom of the entries, muffler pressure suits me just right.
Joe
PS In he NW we have NW .15 Carrier, but no mention of the plane having to be a profile. I tried several years ago to amend our rules to read "Profile" aircraft, but got voted down. the rule change failed because ,and I do take liberty to mention what was said..." Nobody uses a full bodied .15 Carrier now, and I is unlikely anyone is going to in the future".
I only enter contests so somebody else is not always in last place

Yes at the Brodak Flyin I have been allowing muffler pressure in sportsman and 15 profile. Many of our entrants are crossovers from the stunt and scale community and commonly use muffler pressure . And both events are unofficial of course. The AMA events are per the rule book.

Here in Iowa, we have always had a rule variation for .15 that allowed cross-flow .19's (which would include the Veco .19) but we've never had anyone enter such a model.  It goes back to having someone ask if they could fly some plane with an Enya .19, way back when.  Then never showed.
