Interesting stuff. The pictures were taken at Carrier Air Service Unit One based at Pearl Harbor. Brew a big pot of coffee and enjoy!

Bob, the pictures were great. I wonder what it was like flying in one of those hotrods.

The pictures of the "in service" F2G Corsair is very interesting. I've Never seen one with those markings. They were taken out of service quite soon ofter those photos were taken. "Pearl" must have been quite the place in the 40's!

I visited Pearl Harbor in 1996 and I was amased at how small it is. That is at least when you are standing on the Arizona.

I think I spotted a Grumman F8F Bearcat. i didn't think they saw service during WW-II.

Most of the pics were from the immediate post war period.

My Dad was on CV-21 Boxer in 1953. When it was brand new in 1945, it was steaming towards Japan with two or three squadrons of F8F's to deal with the Japanese from Tokyo Bay. Had the Japanese not surrendered when they did there would've been a lot of F8F's involved in WWII. They arrived a few days after.

Yep, the Bearcats were on the way and just barely missed out on the action.
