Post by: Douglas Ames on February 03, 2012, 02:44:57 PM: The pictures of the "in service" F2G Corsair is very interesting. I've Never seen one with those markings. They were taken out of service quite soon ofter those photos were taken. "Pearl" must have been quite the place in the 40's!

When it was brand new in 1945, it was steaming towards Japan with two or three squadrons of F8F's to deal with the Japanese from Tokyo Bay. Had the Japanese not surrendered when they did there would've been a lot of F8F's involved in WWII. They arrived a few days after.
