I was given a couple of old (1983 built) MO-1's which I've been rehabbing to current best practices.

I've searched the net for history and found very little.

This what I've found:  36 or 37 units built.  Delivered to USN Dec 1, 1924.  Maybe begun in 1921.
Used only by the USN.  Carrier-launched and arrested landing.  Also float-equipped.

What's missing:  End date of use.  War record (not much chance that I can imagine).  Any surviving units? I doubt it. 

I seems unlikely that any units remained in service into the 1930's.  The Navy has a practice of getting rid of the old stuff when new comes to them.

The model shown is not mine, just one I photographed at a contest.

Note the 1969 Carrier model plan.  This must be a very early Class I model.  Back in the day of no official profile and no sliders.  The publication date of 1969 implies that it probably dated back to circa 1966.

Gary Hull passed along his Naval Aviation research binder to me at Dayton. Herewith is some data on the MO-1.

I wasn't doubting the carrier use.

I was more curious about the end-of-service date.

The beginning in 1921 or 1924 is clear enough.  The end date is my question.  Based on the rapid rate of progress, I doubt it lasted to 1930.

My Sport Scale PB-2A (P-30) has a well-documented life that begins in 1934 and ended with the final unit being scraped in mid-1941.  It was the world's best fighter for about one year in peacetime.  It beat out the P-26 and lost to the P-35.
