NW Sport 40 Carrier
« on: September 20, 2012, 11:40:47 AM »
We have been flying NW Sport 40 carrier event for a while now here in the Northwest and having pretty good turn outs with an average of 7 contestants per contest. A few other clubs were going to try the event and I wonder how it is working out.   Mike Potter

Yo, Mike...what's the best high speed you've seen ...in MPH? I was impressed with them at Roundup. And I know that you require .40FP clones and mufflers, but can the mufflers be swapped around from brand to brand and modified, and can something like the MACS Muffler be used? I know, I should look at the rulze. See you Saturday AM at the Fun Fly! Oh, will demo rides be available?  ;D Steve

Steve, dead stock OS 35 or 40fp with stock muffler, 10/20 fuel required. Military marking must be used but no scale points. All other AMA rules apply.
Maybe I can bring something for you to test drive but it is not as much fun as having a deck.

I think the NW .40 event will grow just like the NW's first ventures into Clown Race.  After we invented CR it has grown like Topsy across the Country with just some minor local changes. Yesterday Dave Miller and I had a ball flying the .35 FP powered Wildcat that I could not get started in Portland last April due to a terrible tank mounting. I really hope that the event stays as is, a super way for anyone to get started in flying Carrier, with enough leeway to inspire some unusual and good looking planes. I often repeat the thought that Mike Potter really came up with a winning idea with NW Sport .40 Profile Carrier!!  For those that say the two engines are hard to find, I have bought 3 .40 Fp's and 3 .35 Fp's  on Ebey, one .40 NIB none of these 6 engines cost more than $40.  These two engines are very easy to find!

That is the problem with local events.   They get good local support and then someone decides to make it an national event.   I have seen it thru the years,  1/2A Mouse,  Class II Goodyear,  Slow Combat,  Shoestring/Fox racing and yes, profile carrier.  So the other event pertaining to this site is P-40(profile 40 Stunt) which is being changed in other areas.   What would happen if we went back to the 64 NATS and had only the national events.   Speed at that time had multiple classes because of engine sizes.   Of course F2C was getting started with B-Team.   Free flight had multiple classes because of engine sizes.  Radio had classes because of number of functions for the planes.  Remember the rudder only planes flying a pattern.   Back then I could go to a local contest and fly Combat, Rat Race(which was not an official event yet), Navy Carrier and balloon pop.   Only two combat planes with the others in the back of my 64 Fairlane.

Now your Clown Race was a good one until the special built engines came into the picture.  Hope you keep the engine requirement for the NW .40 event.

NW sport .40 is what pulled me and my teenage boys into carrier. Thanks Mike, all I needed is to built more planes and buy more stuff.  This event is great and people are staying to watch.
