Title: Getting Ready For Fun Carrier
Post by: Skip Chernoff on June 06, 2018, 07:19:09 PM
Today conditions were perfect for some testing of my fun carrier plane. Light breezes, good air. I was able to slow my plane to 122 seconds for low speed and 26 secs high speed. This was on 10% fuel 20% oil. Engine is Magnum 25 with 8x6 prop. Arresting hook deployed beautifully. I can get more speed for the high speed portion. I'm psyched!   Cheers,Philly Skip

Definitely potential winning scores.

Attached is a Word document with my intended order of battle.

The plane flew beautifully at throttle trim high in the idle position.I was amazed at how slow I could fly it without it falling out of the air. It was a thing of beauty.I hope I can replicate this during the event.I should be able to......Skip

I would put it in the win column.  Four entries in a brand new unseen event, of which two were NEW to carrier.

Chip & I were able to do the whole routine, takeoff, high, low and landing with the engine running.  We get a lot of promises to enter next year.

The predicted perfect scores didn't happen.  The best thus far were several in the 235 range (75/20 and 73/18).  If we get a slew of 250's it will then be time to make a correction.

One correction WAS made.  Two laps between high & low wasn't enough time for the judges to shift from high to low, so they changed it ti four laps.

Skip Chernoff was the winner in his first Carrier contest.  Sorry, that's his Sportsman Speed plane, but it's pretty much like his Fun Carrier model.  By the way, he also got a full flight (and maybe a prize) is Sportsman Profile with the same plane.

This was a fun event, I didn't get a plane ready so Paul let me use his. Unfortunately I couldn't get the hook down and in messing with it I crashed. But I still got my high speed and 2nd place. I already have my plane for next year on the drawing board.
Good job Paul, I predict a much larger turnout next year

John nice meeting you in person and the other folks. I really dug the carrier stuff and will be back next year. I did fix my "Frankenstein" plane (red and white one) ,but stole the engine out of it for an R/C Pylon race this weekend. For me the high point of the entire week at Brodaks was landing on the carrier on my first try!
I'll be flying Scale as well next year..........Skip
