Title: FJ-4-36 Profile
Post by: Bob Reeves on November 01, 2011, 06:26:16 AM
Been wanting to do this for a while and finally managed to get around to it. This is the plans for another FJ-4, this one is sized and updated so it would be competitive in profile, 350 sq/in, 44 inch wing span with a 31 inch fuselage. I reduced the wing sweep so a slider would be more effective while still retaining the look of the FJ. Made it overall smaller than my big FJ-4 and reduced the wing thickness a bit. Only item not on the plans is the slider. I would like to use a slit carbon tube on top of the wing, even with the wing sweep the leadouts can go about 4 1/2 inches behind the CG.

Wondering if anyone has or may know someone that has put the details of a carbon tube slider in CAD? Would sure save me allot of work. Also wondering what the best way is to cut the slot in the side of a carbon tube?

I really don't want to get into the kit business but am getting some pricing for laser cut parts and full size printed plans. Should by chance anyone might be interested once I get the pricing pined down I'll post what I find out.

Hey Bob, Still stuck here in DC.  How did you come up with 350 as the magic number?  I know we were trying to figure that out a few weeks ago.  I couldn't find any FJ4s at the Smithsonian, but did see a few other carrier planes.
See you Thursday the 10th. Lee TGD

The MO1 is around 340... After I finalized the wind sweep, wing tips and drew the plan outline it ended up at 350.. Figured that was a good number  y1

Are you going to do the full monty with the flight controls? Would the slider eliminate the need for the flaps, ail. & rudder?
I'm sure it would be easier to build! Here's some colorful pics.
