Good luck with Wildcat. I built one and just needs minor details. Looking good and went together nicely.  I bought a secong kit and may change bellcrank closer to wing.

Reliability is why I choose the OS 40 fp for NW Sport 40 Carrier here in the Northwest. The OS 35 fp is the same engine except the displacement. These engines are readily available at a very reasonable price at swap meets and on the internet. I'm sure you would be happy with one. Not a contest winner but relyable.   Mike

Before starting the construction of the Dumas kit, go check out Billy Bischof's version of the kit.   You will find it on the second page of this section. H^^

Mike's right, OS FP engines are a great choice. The .35 will allow entry into Sportsman, Profile, or NW Sport Carrier. For more performance there has got to be an EVO.36, ST-34, Webra 32 or 36, OS-32, Thunder Tiger or Magnum 36 R/C somewhere in Tucson...or E-Bay, or a friend who flies R/C used engine stash. All make good carrier engines. 8)

I would heartily recommend the OS 32F. Works great with the stock carb, should go about 75-80 on 10% with an APC 9x6. I'm watching one on the bay right now that's about $11.00 with 3 days left. There's also a NIB one from the same person at about $33.00. As a plus, the same mounting pattern will fit the EVO 36, Irvine 36, ThunderTiger 36, OS 32SX and 35AX, Webra 32-36 and a host of others.

OS .32F is great engine. Webra made a .32 I could be wrong. GT model speed. Some used Fox combat specials a time back. I don't know why N/W sport does not allow LA .40 as no advanyge over FP-.40. FP-'s are easy to find but shape who knows. I bought one guy said new in box and he lied. It will go into a speed limit combat ship.

The FP40 was picked because everyone I surveyed said they had one or two already. Plus they were easily found on eBay and swapmeets at very reasonable prices. They preform very nicely and are perfect for an entry level event.       Mike

Dan,, its for the same reason that you cannot use a ST 35 in a Fox 35 racing event, that being, those are the rules, and by regulating it, it becomes a much more ENTRY LEVEL friendly event,, everyone has the same setup so an exchange of information becomes more likely,,

And keep it that way and it might grow.  I told the originator of SkyRay Carrier years ago he messed up when he didn't state the leadouts should be in the same location as the kit.   Now it is an over powered event with leadouts at the trailing edge. H^^

I just hope I can get the Dumas Crusader redone by the next carrier event at Huntersville.  It is box stock so I guess it will be legal. ???

Put the bellcrank on the outside like Bill B. did. As a matter of fact print out the pictures of Bill's that he posted and do the samo-samo. You will be glad you did, it' a bute y1  Mike

If I'm not mistaken the plane is already built, awaiting refurbishing. But for new construction, I'd agree. (I wonder why?)

Actually the plane is already built.  The covering was shot so it got stripped off and I sanded down the fuselage paint so that I can redo it (just like Bill's!).  Unfortunately some cancer surgery and the following 6 months of treatments have slowed things down a bit!

The model will just get recovered and repainted so that it is safe and flyable.  Old style Magnum big case .36 for power.

Since the hook doesn't control any other functions, up or down release is kind of academic. Here's a simple up activated release. Mount another horn on the bottom of the other elevator to release the hook. The piece of hardware that supports the hook release wire is a nylon RC strip aileron bearing. It's basically a tube with a tab on it. If you don't have one, you can wrap a small strip of brass or fuel tank tinplate around a 1/2" long piece of 1/8" OD brass tubing and solder it or CA it. Cut a slot in the fuselage and glue it in. All of it is non-critical. Just cut the release wire to  the desired length. Easy breezy beautiful. ;)
