Title: Cox Conquest RC
Post by: Gary Widmer on August 14, 2006, 10:37:36 AM
I'm contemplating trying .15 Carrier and would like to get your collective thoughts and suggestions.  I've got a NIB Conquest.  Is this an OK entry level engine?  What would be an appropriate model?  I've read about the "Snapper" but don't know where to get plans.  Actually, I'd prefer a more scale-like model.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.  Gary

Gary...The Cox s a super engine for .15....as long as local rules allow rear exhaust.

The original 15 Carrier rules (from Denver) allowed any 15.

If you would like a scale like model, contact Lou Crane in Serria Vista AZ.  He seems to have ended up with Gerry Deneau's collect of 15 carrier plans.  IIRC there was a F4F Wildcat, Dauntless, F8F Bearcat, and an A4 Skyhawk that Gerry drew up.  The Dauntless plans should be available from Model Aviation.

I agree, the Cox is an excellent motor. I had problems getting the Perry carb to work right for me so I put on an OS carb and that works great.

I have some templates (no plans) for an MO-1 that is more or less scale that flies well. I originally built a Sniper and it flew pretty well. The MO-1 works better. It has a solid balsa wing and is pretty sturdy (good for starting out). If you would like me to copy the templates for you I am willing to do that. Just let me know your email and we can communicate off line.

Have a go at carrier, its fun.

I had trouble getting the Cox / Perry combo to work, but was determined to get it going becasue I have several in hand from my pre-Nelson F2d days.

With the help of this forum and Perry's web site, I was able to get the Perry to work.  PM-me if you are interested.
