Suggestions for .15 Carrier
« on: February 21, 2012, 11:49:33 AM »
I have some OS .15FP engines, and with a widening desire to fly Carrier,  I am open to suggestions on what to build for my first ".15" carrier model.

Thanks!

Bill, I would suggest a Brodak Flying Clown. I have seen a number of them fly at Brodak's and they fly great. It will get you going quickly.

That's good.  The Brodak Junior Lightning Streak worked OK for me.

I agree with Wayne, a B rodak Flying Clown.  Easy to build, room inside for BC, room for a tank. There's a picture of one of mine leading off the thread about "What are you building"

Other alternatives: There have been 3 or 4 .15 carrier planes published in Model Aviation the past 15 or so years. Easy enough to search out through the AMA web site. Also, Bill Bishop's (I think) "Sniper" is a winner but not scale. I'm sure plans can be found for that design. 8)

I also think there are plans circulating somewhere of Gay Hull's Brewster if you are looking for something that is scale. Gary has been very sucessfull with his Brewster series in Profile and .15 carrier.

I have seen two Snipers for .15 Carrier both flew very well. Cool looking model also and has Spitefire shaped wing.

Brodak is suppose to be releasing the FJ4B-15 any time now. Not sure what the kit will cost. Not too difficult to build and flys great.

The above list is great info but before everyone gets upset over the listed cost please check at the AMA web site. They reduced their plan cost by approx half last year. For example the Kingfisher and Corsair II listed above for $35 and $34 respectively are currently listed at a reasonable $14.00 on the AMA / Model Aviation plans site.  8)

I think that's wingspan, area and engine size.

Yup Bill, u-all are correct - thankfully...sometimes it's good to be wrong, FWIW: This thread has got me thinking of making that SBD, neat ,looking plane. One of the old J-Roberts bellcranks ought to work well with a 15 sized carrier plane. They are smaller than the Brodak ones and yes, I would use an original handle as well. y1

Hi Pete,

I have two very good J.Roberts handles w/good lines and a few of the bell cranks.  I am good to go in that area.

Thanks!

Bill, glad you have the "right stuff".  Another project I had considered for .15 carrier is to build one using the outline of  the old Class I Mauler from the 60's. It is the right size and has tons of that Navy look that I feel adds a lot to the event. You can find it on Tom's carrier CD (highly recommended and sorry 'bout the specifications mis-read). 8)
