Carrier in Huntersville, NC Sat. Oct. 24th

We will have Profile, Class I and II will be combined(you can fly both if you want but I will only use one for trophies), and .15(Denver rules).

Well I am finally getting around to posting the scores from our new Carrier contest.  There were only 4 of us but I got a bunch of questions and some people interested in flying next year.  Hopefully i will have some pics and possibly some video soon.

    .15 - we had 3 entrants but only one official flight(the deck almost floated away)

         1st - Jo Shoemaker - BF 109 - 73.64

     Profile

         1st - Everett Shoemaker - Fairey Fulmar - 236.15
         2nd - David Smith - Guardian - 225.36
         3rd - Alex Givan - MO-1 - 159.99
         4th - Jo Shoemaker - Guardian - 100.8

      Class I and II combined

          1st - Everett Shoemaker - Fairey Fulmar - Class II - 294.26
          2nd - David Smith - MO-1 - Class I - 211.02



We had fun and hopefully we can get some more people out next year.

Cool pictures. Looks like there were some exciting flights!!! Nice looking planes too.

The deck looks good, is it just flat on the grass? Looks like it does the job.

The deck has a 1x3 frame on it and the edges overlap so where each piece meets they are the same height.
We had alot of fun.

     Thanks so much for the pictures they are great. Its nice that you are able to take pictures of your contest during the action. So many of the contest that I go to there are pictures taken but usually by a spectater and they are never seen again. Makes me want to go fly carrier.
     I noticed the MO-1 seems to have caught its landing gear on one of the arresting wires and is in the process of going over and loosing 100 points or so. When I started flying carrier I used 2-3/8" wheels to practice with and then would switch when I went to a contest to 1' wheels. It didn't take me long to stop switching to the 1" wheels and just leaving on the 2-3/8" wheels (easier too) on the plane. 100 points is a lot to gamble on. Marc Warwashana has some very good wheels as does Glen Lee, I use both.

There was somebody going around taking pictures and I got him to send me them, there was no way I could have been able to take pics, time, fly, and try to fly combat also.

As for the wheels that was a last minute dive for the deck because I had already gone around once because the wind had shifted and I just wanted to get it on the ground. I usually use the wheels similar to the ones on my Guardian but for some reason on the Mo1 I didnt.

Is the deck 3/4 or 1/2 particle board? I assume the 1x3 are around the periphery. Any cross braces? nice pictures.

It is actually 7/16 particle board and no cross braces but I think I will put them in down the center eventually.  To be honest if you can afford to spend a little more I think plywood would be better.

David,  sorry I have missed this.  The pictures are great and great that someone is flying carrier.  The white Gaurdian, is that yours?  The deck looks good, but do put the strips of wood down the middle if not to keep the wood from sagging, but to keep club footed people like me from stomping on it.

Yes the white Guardian is mine.  It is one that I brought with me to Topeka in 2000 I think and when we pull tested it it ripped the bellcrank out through the wing.  So then I just put a 2 line bellcrank and a Mccoy 35 with a piece of balsa shoved in the venturi on it and just flew it for sport flying up until earlier this year where I took it with me to the Polk City contest and flew and won with it in beginner stunt.  Then when I blew the wing off of my spearfish at the Nats I decided to make this back into a Carrier plane.

I think I will put the braces down the middle this winter some time.
