I went to Carmichaels with 16 airplanes to enter 13 events.  I ended up using 11 planes to fly the 13 events, loaned out 3 planes and didn't use 2.  Didn't wreck any.  I also left the camera in the car didn't take on single picture at the contest.  So I took a few while I was unpacking.

Mark Warwashana joined our entourage for the first time.  He pitted a total of three entries for six official flight in Racing on Tuesday and Wednesday.  He got schooled pretty good in Brodak Racing.

On Thursday, Mark gave everybody a big dose of big league carrier by sweeping Class I and Profile, by huge margins.

I took my first-ever shot at Class I with my brand-new Mottin 30" Skyraider.  It did two complete hi-low-landing flghts right out of the box.  Landings: perfect.  Low speed, as good as you can expect on a Nostalgia plane with fixed leadouts.  High speed: not so high, needs work.  Good enough for 3rd Place.  

Great to hear you did okay.  If I get things worked out will be there next year. 

I bought Brodak's plans for both the Lightning Streak (for Foxberg racing) and the Junior Lightning Streak for carrier.  Both planes have paid off handsomely on the home ice of their supplier.

The flight with the Skyraider was only third place in The Brodak, but is was my first placing in the event. I was quite relieved that this once-a-year opportunity came out well.  Winning the event is not an option with Marcus in the house.  

Paul, Is that Skyraider from the '69 AMA plans or a different set, thats really neat!

My dad was in VA-65 on the Enterprise and the Connie, he reilisted and changed commands about the time they phased the Skyraiders out of that squadron.. still have his patches and such.  He did talk fondly of the old bird.  More and more, I seem to have an interest in that plane, have to build one.... but I still need to practice up on flying

Who actually sells that particular plan now, I'd love to build one sometime and maybe the old Guardian and corsair I have tucked away as well....but again, I need to improve my flyin skillz

He used to tell me some stories, probably embelished a bit, but I always liked one he told about some drills or war games where the Skyraiders were the hunted and the jet squadrons were the hunters... according to my dad, the skyraiders would "evade" everything by deploying the dive brakes and flaps and just basically hanging in the clouds flying no faster than birds etc.  He liked to claim that a the pilot would wait and when the jet jockey got to close the skyraider would pounce for the kill. 

He also talked about flying the base in Virgina and I think Bermuda... I worshiped the only artifacts left from that time, two Mccoy .35's, a late Johnson CS, and a Fox .35 the gold/chorme version form what 1962 (and an old Schuco racer he claimed the lightened and raced) or so....We used those same engines when we flew in the late 70's and early 80's.... I still have most of, somehow lost the Johnson and the Fox..., I'll be using them again as I attempt to get back into the fold

Tall story, probably, but it sounded good to me as an 8-10 year old   It was that kind of story, and his old planes (and pieces of planes) that got me interested in CL in the first place probably in the late 70's.

Go to the AMA site and look for plans.  They have all the past plans as well as what John Pond had.

Just send Tom the money and get the CD.  It is worth every penny.
