Title: Carrier at Brodak Fly-In
Post by: john vlna on January 02, 2011, 03:18:18 PM
I just wanted to let you know that the 2011 Fly-In info has been posted on Brodak's site. Sportsman and 15 profile will have glow and electric power combined. Rules are posted. There are acouple of errors which I will clean up, but I think they are clear enough. AMA events are per AMA rules. Flying will be Wed. and Thur. Any class any day may be flown.

John,

I think I would like to give Carrier a try but since I am almost totally electric these days i want to make sure I have the rules interpreted correctly.

The way I understand the rules, for electric, I can use any Brodak Kit total weight under 2.5 pounds......say a Magician..... with any motor, and under 42 volts on 52 foot lines and get the 10% bonus.

Is that correct??

Can I modify the fuse lines a little to make it look like a WWII warbird, or must it remain stock to get the 10% bonus??

Thanks

Tim

Tim,
Yes I think you have it right. You do not have to use a Brodak kit, however if you do you get a 10 point bonus. Modifications are permitted to make the model look more like a military plane as long as the basis moments are not changed.

Thanks John,

I read some of the earlier post regarding electric mixing in with IC and the rift that seems to be present with some modelers.

I have no beef either way, would not matter to me if it is a totally separate event, I would just like to try out a new facet of the hobby. I have watched it at Brodak the last several years and it looks like a lot of fun.

Tim,
I hope you will enjoy flying carrier. Electric and Glow have been mixed successfully at the NATS in the unofficial events so I think it will work out. I expect several electric entries.

Electric or not. Brodak's is the high point for my summer. See you then John.

Tim, after ging to numerous Carrier events across the Nation including a bunch of AMA Nats I can tell you that the Carrier event at Brodak's is my all time favorite event.  You will have fun and you can reley on getting what ever help you need while there.  My only negative is to look out for a dangerous, sometimes nearly mad old guy who will fill your head with superfulous Flumery( see picture below)

Thanks Joe,

Brodaks is the only even that I attend that has carrier, I am mainly a stunt flyer but I am going to try old time and Carrier this year. The event is just to much fun to not try everything.

The only thing I am not really into flying is the racing, although I did have a ball pittting for Marvin Denny last year.
