For the last two years, we have had an ultra simple arresting system at Clanton just for fun flying---this year, Ty Marcucci actually used it (it's first use!) to make an arrested landing with one of Joe Just's Wildcats.

Ty caught the 4th "wire" on his second attempt; the Wildcat looks to be a great Carrier trainer.

We have the room to expand the set up to "Official" size, for next year, and are willing to do it, if enough interest is shown.

I think this is the "Wildcat" refered to.  Built by Ty/flown by Ty.  Way to go!

Did you get rid of the 10x8 prop and install a 9x6? On 10% and a 9x6 APC, an OS 32F should get that airplane off the ground with no problem unless it's woefully overweight.

Don't use full up on take off.  Even on a hard deck.   Had to teach that to a local carrier expert back in the days at Swope Park in KCMo.  Once he got to holding the elevator neutral on take off, he would clear the crepe streamer we used to mark the deck.

     I've been using the APC 9/6 sport prop "only" for the last 20 years and it has served me well. I also use it on my CL-1&2 (40, and 45) planes it just turns a little faster. You don't need to use full up on take off if your plane sits nose high on the deck so if you lengthen the tail wheel height you will have to lengthen the landing gear height to make up for it. Angle of attack is everything when leaving the deck, it you don't have it before you start the take off roll your sunk so to speak. I use up and down to release the hook and am starting to favor up because I don't use any up in the take off but I do use down to level the plane of after take off. The amount of up or down I use to release the hook is 4 degrees at most because anything more causes loss of control.  Eric

     You are so right Ty about taking off in grass. I have a soccer field and an out field at a baseball diamond to fly off of and the up elevator for hook release doesn't cut it at these two places. You have to hold varying degrees of up elevator to keep the tail down a little and to keep the plane from tripping. One thing about grass the hook works pretty good on landing.  Eric

I KNOW this Doc and I wish you would stop commenting on every thing I post like I was an idiot. You aren't the only one to fly carrier.  It's just been a while for me.  H^^
