John Vlna - thank you for running the event.  It was a nice gesture to decline taking prizes at your own event, but not really necessary.

Paul- you did very well yourself I see.  Great job.

John- What was the last two events on the list?  The last event had a 17.65 fast time. WOW!

Duke, more than likely Both Class 1 and 2.  Yea, a class 2 wsith a .60 can really get out and MOVE!

That's what I was thinking. Did you see the difference between 1st and 2nd? It went from 17sec to something like 24sec.  He was screaming.

Joe- Did you get the email changing the date of the next Skyraider carrier contest?

Thanks also from the old DOC.  It was great seeing you and the wife again.  Now who is this guy that knocked me out of last place in Sportsman?   I see I missed a few people by taking the wife to Hersheys PA for the chocolate factory.   Maybe I will get serious for next year if the wife will let me(that a no as I have too much fun).   Thanks for posting.

Joe

The names of the four events were:

15
Sport Profile (36)
Expert Profile (36)
Class I & II combined (0 to 65)

In reality, 40's have become so powerful that Class II is irreverent.  In Class II you can use a heavy 65 on fat lines.  In Class I you can use a fantastically powerful 40 on .015" lines.  I recently heard that the Class II record was broken by a 46. So much for 65's.  It is quite appropriate to combine the two scale classes.

Paul,
Thanks for the comment, but I really don't want the trophy and I get a lot of pleasure out of seeing others fly.

Just as a historical note. My class ll Kingfisher is powered by an OS .45RSM-ABC. It was easy to convert from a boat motor. It came about when my .60 ship went down hard and I needed a class ll. It turned out to be a great match. In it's (and my own) prime it won the Nats in 83 and 87. Scores were right around 390 and high speeds averaged 15.5! The 17ish Brodak was smokey rich and I was very happy to get a good landing.  Hope to fly it again next year!! C.T. Schaefer

Great job CT!  I was just talking to my boys about going to Brodaks, but I don't know if it possible in the next rwo years.  It would be a great road trip.

Schaefer's plane has one of the old school pressurized high performance engines.  The kind of stuff that made people (quite rightly) to hide behind something during the high speed.  Mine and John's are just off-the-shelf RC sport engines.

Back when high speed was king the old II's really got your attention.

Duke, if you can afford it and have the vacation time, do it.   The scenery between you and PA is awesome as you cross the different states.   Just from KS I crossed Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia and then got to Pennsylvania.   Only about 14 miles in WV thought.   I think John Wright said it took about 4 days from California.   And the I see we had one entrant all the way from South Africa.   Then on the way home you guys will be talking about all that happened.  Only two more years from what I hear.

Duke
Doc is correct, John Brodak only intends to run this event for two more years, so if you want to do it you don't have a lot of time.
