I just seen this pic on planeaday and wondered what if we launched our planes with a catapult. At least I think that thing below the nose of the plane was part of a cataput. Maybe someone can clue me in.

I believe it is a catapult hitch (cable? Lanyard?). Back in the days BL (Before LiPo) bungee launching was popular for 400 to 600 sized 'speedy' planes, as it let you leave off all the heavy, draggy landing gear and replace it with batteries.

I think you'd have more crashes, and entertaining ones, at that!

In the full scale world, all jet carrier planes use catapults (expect, of course hovercraft like the Harrier).

Hi Doc,
That is the cat bridle. The older airplanes had hardpoints up on the airframe and the cable bridle was used to attach it to the cat's trolley.
New Navy airplanes have a haed link to the nosewheel strut.
Good looking Fury. Bob Hoover did the NAA carrier trials for the run up to the airplane being accepted and they used a standard Sabre with very limited mods. They bent up the fuse really bad and painted some stripes on it to help hide the damage until they could complete the trials!
