Hi I'm new to carrier and was wondering where I could find out about the .15 carrier event as it is flown at Brodaks meet. I just purchased a Guillows SBD and have ordered a OS.15 engine. S?P

I've flown 15 Profile at The Brodak several times. It's a nice, casual event.
Note:
There are NO bonus for looking like a Navy airplane. There IS a 10-point bonus for using a Brodak kit or plan. So you are better-advised to browse the Brodak catalog for a design that works. The Junior Lightning Streak works for me.

15 carrier is usually a profile event but nothing say you can't fly a scale model. Check out Brodak's web site for the 15 carrier rules. Mike

.15 Carrier does indeed require a Profile model as the rules read that the AMA Profile rules are to apply EXCEPT .... <certain differences in engine size, line sizes, etc.>. There is no provision for exceptions to the profile fuselage.
But don't get too broken up about it - I really don't see any way to make a useable .15 Carrier model from a stick & tissue Guillows kit. You could build a wing to the outline of the kit and use a Profile of the side view however. I don't know what the size of the Guillows kit is, but for a .15 I generally figure something around 200 sq. in. and weight of 20-24 oz.
As noted above, you get a bonus at the Brodak contest for using a Brodak kit and I believe that one of the Clowns usually does pretty well also.

Brodak does not mention in their rules anything about the fuselage but they title it "Profile 15 Carrier". They also state at the end "all other AMA carrier rules will apply". So I guess that means a profile 1/2 inch wide fuselage with a 300 sq in wing for profile 15 too! Does a Jr. Flight Streak have 1/2" fuselage and 300 sq in wing?I know people have used them and Clowns for years in this fun event but maybe a little clarification with Brodak"s rules is in order. Brodak 15 Carrier Rule #3:
No model size limit, 4 lbs weight limit applies.

Thanks for the advice guys; I'll checkout the Brodak site. The plan was to use the Guillows kit as a basic out line for the profile fuselage and wing plan. The kit has a 31&1/4 inch wing span and the plans are very well done. Best wishes to all.

Go to the "Navy Carrier Society" site where Bill Caulkins was kind enough to have all the rules for the carrier events. .15 Carrier has a max speed limit of 70 MPH. Anything over that is just waste.

Thanks Doc. I will do as you suggest. Best wishes to all. :!

I have sent in a clarification of the Brodak 15 profile rules for the sea lawyers out there. To summarize, Profile means profile; all applicable AMA rules concerning profiles and carrier in general apply.
If anyone has questions on carrier at Brodak's contact me at flyclcarrier@yahoo.com . My goal is to get everyone to have a good time flying carrier and 15 is a good place to start. It is less complex than the AMA events and a 15 can be put together rather quickly.

Soooo 1/2" fuselage and 300 square inches wing area for 15 class just like the rules for regular Profile? S?P

'"Brodak 15 Carrier Rule #3:

Per the NCS .15 Carrier Rules (Denver rules):
"....Scale Bonus Points: None
Minimum Wing Area: None ........"
Per John Vlna (E.D. for Brodak):
" .... Profile means Profile. ... "
So yes, you are limited to a profile fuselage as defined by the CL General rules. No, there is no 300 Sq. In. minimum wing area.
