I just use a plain car controller and regular 2-line handle.  This allows me to work the throttle while starting the engine and running to the handle.

Those combined setups rob you of that ability.   

I have also added a neck lanyard to the RC controller so I can let go of it if necessary without it hitting the ground.

Aren't we all Joe, especially me I will try to get picture of my set up.  It has been pull tested and I would not use it on a Class I or II.

I like the handle to be as small and light as possible. I also find that when I touch the handle with my left hand, let's say it had a toggle switch or a trigger I tend to jiggle handle resulting in a poor flight quality. With the large models I like to have all four fingers around the handle, with the index finger working the trigger you only have your three smaller fingers holding and flying the model.

I hang the transmitter on my hip and that transmitter flies all of my airplanes, but each airplane has a dedicated set of lines and handle. I un-roll the lines and the keep the transmitter with me at all times and operate the throttle and other features by feel.

Use what works for you I have seen so many different combinations, one Nats pilot flies with a stunt handle and holds the RC car radio in his left hand and works the trigger that way. nice way of doing it.
