Old versions of AutoCAD and WIndows 10
« on: April 19, 2019, 10:11:29 PM »
Windows 7 support ends later this year so, for those of us using old versions of AutoCAD, there may be a problem.

Now retired, I use AutoCAD 2004 and cannot afford to buy a new copy so I may have a problem.

Is anybody running older versions of AutoCAD in Windows 10?

I tried AutoCAD 2004 unsuccessfully once—even with compatibility mode.

What is others' experience?

Hi Geoff,

Please remember that just because Microsoft will end it support of Windows 7 doesn't mean that your computer and AutoCAD will stop working. It's just if you have a "support" issue, Microsoft will not available to assist you. It also means there will be no more Windows 7 updates.

As you are aware AutoCAD 2004 is not supported on Windows 10. So if you upgrade to Windows 10 you will need to upgrade AutoCAD. AutoCAD LT might be another option for you, but it's still expensive but not as bad as big brother AutoCAD.

If at first you don't succeed ---- let someone else try it!  ;)

just run a virtual machine within win10 running 7 or xp if it freaks you out that much.  tell my customers to do that all of the time with our old software that just does not like Win10.
