Microlite is one of my favorites to work with based on how easy it goes around corners, shrink rate and heat range. I've used it over solid surfaces many times, especially on gliders and stuff.
Obviously, the one thing you'll need to look out for, is give the air somewhere to go as you shrink it. But I think you'll like the results.
Another cautionary statement about the material itself..... When you remove the backing, DON'T let the "sticky" side of the film touch the sticky side. It almost instantly bonds to its own sticky side. The longer it sits, the more improbable it is to get it apart.

I'm sure you know that stuff having used it, but it sounds like you'll be needing big panels of it.
