Super Model Cement
« on: April 27, 2010, 06:39:59 AM »
As mentioned before, I am re-entering the world of C/L P/A after a 36 year hiatus. Back then the adhesive choices were limited.

However, we had one glue back then that I was introduced to in the 60's by Jack Sheeks. It was called Super Model Cement and it came in a blue tube with a little red or yellow in the lettering. (I think)

It was excellent glue and I used to buy it at Jack's favorite hobby shop in Indianapolis, which I seem to recall as Mike's Hobbies.

I moved from Indy in 1968, but whenever I went back for a visit, I would stock up and buy a whole box. I eventually convinced my local hobby shop in Saginaw, MI to stock Super "Glue" as we referred to it, not to be confused with the many "super" (ca) glues today.

I have done some digging on the web and have come up empty handed. Apparently, this product hasn't been around for a long time.

I am curious if anyone here has ever used it or even heard of it.

It sounds like some of the stuff Testors put out. D>K

I don't recall that it was a name brand product, like Testors.  I believe it was its own brand.

HI Dick. I have  looked in 6 different model mags from the early 60s back to the late 50's including a Brit mag. Nothing even close. I wonder if it was just a small company and could not afford to advertise nationally.  I wonder if Jack might remember who put it out. D>K

Well, it could have been a small time operation, but Jack swore by it.  He convinced me and I bought it by the carton whenever I found it.

Best glue ever made!  It was made by Dubro but only for a short time.  I called them a couple of years ago to see if they would make it again or sell me the formula.  Answer was no on both accounts.  Originally it was made in a plane lead tube (no markings) by a guy in the north Chicago suburbs.  That was back in the late 50's early 60's.
I used to like painting with dope but now I can't remember why! Steve Fauble
