I built one with flaps and after a crash, rebuilt it without them.
Flys fine.
I think a plane this size can be as good - or better - with the flpas stationary.
You said you're a beginner - you can easily learn to fly the pattern with a no-flap Twister, and more up to a flapped "pro" stunter later.
The first pitcher is "stock" as built for the 1990 Sig.
The second is after it was crashed & rebuilt in 2006. Flaps were "fixed" and LE sheet and capstrips added.
